    server choices

I am still kinda humming and hawing about whether or not I am playing at release (once there is a trial I will definitely give it a go) given all the bad things we have heard about it.

Even so, we need to select a place to congregate soon and since rp-pvp is the server type most seem to be in favour of, we must pick an available country as the server names will be based on that.

I am partial to Hyperborea and since it received the second most votes in NA it will likely be one of the choices, so I will put it forward as my nomination.

I don't particularly care, so Hyperborea is fine with me.  It'd be nice if we could coordinate with some of the RP communities we've gotten along with in the past (from WoW and SB and that guild that posted about an alliance) , though.

PvP is going to be really gank-tastic in AoC, so traveling in allied groups will be integral.  Especially if we won't have many folks at release.

I'm down for Hyperborea... which also means that I'll be playing at release.  I'm graduating on the 23rd and am getting my wisdom teeth removed the next week, so I'll be down to do nothing but sleep and game for a little while.

I definitely need to get some hardcore gaming time in before I join the workforce and then go off to grad/med school.

I hope I see you all there, and I'll keep lurking around here to see what the plans are.

(By the way, like Caraffa, I'm not planning on playing immediately at release.  I cancelled my preorder, mainly because they refuse to drop the NDA and have made a lot of risky promises that will probably blow up in their faces.  I'll probably get it quite soon after launch, if I'm assured of the game's relative stability, but I don't want to spend the first few weeks troubleshooting.)

I believe there is a fair number of SSC folks that are interested in giving AoC a shot. Told them you guys were looking towards an Rp Pvp server. Will see what's what I suppose.

Edit - As was pointed out on the SSC forums they have released the names of the servers that will be available on the 17th.

    http://community.ageofconan.com/wsp/conan/frontend.cgi?func=publish.show&template=content&func_id=2474&table=CONTENT

The only RP PvP server available, as well as the only RP server available, is Cimmeria. Now I have a feeling a lot of the 17th people, jugding from the community, will head to Cimmeria. This means that on the 20th, there will be more RP PvP servers that come up. Potentially messing up anyone that starts early if the server becomes super crowded and Funcom takes measures like a long queue or even a cap on new accounts creating characters. Still not sure if I'm gonna grab it, probably not right at release, I have feeling this won't be a repeat of the DAoC launch and will take a few days to get stable servers. Also see what others think once they've had a chance to play it and if they are gonna stick around.

That sounds like a pretty good plan, Pravus.  I imagine I'll do the same thing.  Anyone else have any thoughts?

    Re: server choices

From my experiences in CB and from what I have read about the PvP servers ARCH has zero desire to play on one. Even if it has the RP in front of it and a rule set you can bet there will be people that go there just to ruin what little actual RPing that goes on.

ARCH shall be playing on the Dagoth server, this way we can choose when we want to get ganked. See you in Hyboria.

I'll likely be playing come release.  I figure I'm going to be picking it up at some point as it is, and I'd rather have my name reserved.  Are we still planning on doing the Aquilonian house concept?

Hi guys... this is Nearo from Kul Tiras Marines.

We're on the RP-PvP server ourselves.. where are you guys located? We were hoping that our guilds would end up on the same server, and even though there are plenty of people who don't respect the rulesets in RP-PvP servers, at least you're guarenteed less of that douchebag element in comparison to a straight up PVP server. Plus you have the TOS agreement on your side, and with the PvP enviroment on this game, you can kill whoever displeases you.

Our guys who are on Cimerria so far report the server is stable, not overcrowded, etc etc.

    Re: server choices

Hey Nearo.  I don't really know if any of us have started playing yet.  I imagine I'll start in a week or so, assuming the stability/server population holds, and I suspect most of us who are interested will do the same.  I can't really see us going anywhere other than Cimmeria, assuming it doesn't get too overcrowded.  What sort of guild is KTM going for?  Hopefully we can ally/group, when everyone's settled.  Thanks for checking in!

@Jonias: I think we decided to try the Aquilonian guild for a bit and adjust from there.  I'm kind of ambivalent, but whatever the majority wants is cool with me.  Anyone else have impressions about the game/comments?

Alright. I've decided to make an executive decsion. I'll be logging in and getting the game. What the heck? Aside from GTA 4 and my new puppy, I'm not doing much.

We'll give the RP-PVP server a shot, so roll on Cimmeria. I'll make a post to this effect. I'm not afraid of gankers and have faith we'll be able to for alliances with solid RP guilds.

We'll also keep the faith and go Aquilonian on release.

We should play it more by ear, low server pops are likely due to caps on early start, I am up for whatever server we play on but am still really wondering whether or not I should fork out cash right now for it. That said I also suggested Hyperborea as it wasn't the most popular choice as a reason why it might be better.

Except Hyperborea isn't on the list of known servers, and we don't know what type of server it will be if and when it comes out, it could be a PvE server.

It has already been stated that RP-PVP servers will be countries, PVE are gods, and PvP are named after famous weapons or something like that.

I suggested Hyperborea because it came second in the NA poll of RP-PvP server names.

    Re: server choices

They've only announced one RP PvP server at the moment

No others have been listed, I think that is what Dunalbee was saying.  From what I've heard on Vent, the servers have been up and down, but not neccessarily due to server stress.
